Behind Our Name

Inspiration for our label originally came from reading about a woman who lived more than 2000 years ago, in a town called Bethany. This woman possessed an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, worth more than one year’s wages. 

Driven by extravagant love, she poured out the entire contents of the jar onto a man’s head! Shocked witnesses deemed the act wasteful but the recipient was truly blessed by her willingness to give all that she had to him. 

Although innocent, the man knew that very soon he would be arrested and put to death —so this act of anointing was particularly special.  You can read more about this story in the Bible in Mark chapter 14. Jesus himself spoke of the woman’s actions toward him, saying that people everywhere would speak of this incredible act. Our label seeks to honour this memory and continue the pattern of extravagant love toward others.
