Candle Care

We hope that you will enjoy every moment of your candle purchase from Alabaster Jar Collective. To get the most from your candle, it is important to trim the wick to 6mm before lighting and then let it burn until the flame creates a wax pool extending right to the edges. This will ensure that in future, your candle will burn to the edge and use all of the wax, instead of tunnelling to the bottom leaving a ring of wasted wax clinging to the glass.

Please read the following safety and care advice:

  • Never leave burning candles unattended.
  • Do not light candles on or near TV cabinets or on other electrical items or sources of heat.
  • Due to the heat a flame produces, take care when placing candles on valuable surfaces such as polished furniture.
  • Burn candles for a maximum of three hours at a time. After the maximum recommended burn time, extinguish, let it cool, trim the wick and then you may relight.
  • Keep candles out of reach of children and also pets.
  • Remember that a draught can cause a candle to smoke. Take care when positioning candles in rooms with curtains.
  • Do not light the candle if the glass container is cracked, chipped or broken.
  • When using multiple wick candles, all wicks must be lit every time.
  • Before lighting a candle, always trim the wick to 6mm and remove any wick debris to encourage an even burn while helping to eliminate dripping and smoking.
  •  Container candles may become hot. Always handle with care and wait for the wax to set and the candle to cool before attempting to move it. Never move a burning candle!
  • A burning candle can generate significant heat above the flame. Always position well away from any combustible materials!
  • If lighting a candle using a match, take care to prevent any match debris from dropping onto the candle. Using a candle lighter is preferable as it ensures maximum safety and efficiency.
  • Keep the wax pool free from foreign objects such as wick trimmings, wick particles, match debris and dust. Unused container candles keep best with their lid in place.

How to remove unwanted wax residue from fabric:

  • Place in freezer for 15 minutes to harden the wax and then remove the wax.
  • Use a hair dryer to heat remaining wax then quickly wipe with a clean cloth.
  • Wash garment in hot water, or place a paper towel on top of the wax spots and press with a warm iron.

Glass care:

  • Even the very best soy candle will deposit some carbon on glass, especially if the wick is not trimmed or the candle is exposed to draughts while burning. Wipe away any build-up with a clean, damp cloth when flame has been extinguished and wax has hardened.

Reed Diffuser Care:

After unboxing your reed diffuser, unscrew the rose gold cap, then carefully lift the plastic plug and discard. Replace the gold cap and arrange the reeds in the jar. Once fragrance oil has travelled up the reeds, you may turn them, being careful not to let the oil drip on clothing or surfaces. Always wash your hands thoroughly afterwards. Reeds may be turned weekly if desired. It is important to ensure that the diffuser is always located in a safe place away from small children and pets.
